3/4 Welcome Back Letter 2016
Dear Students and Parents,
I am thrilled that you will be in my class this year! We are going to learn so many new and exciting things together. This year, since Madison Elementary is going to a multi-age model, Mrs. Stanley, Mrs. Spaaulding, and I have been working together to plan intriguing projects to challenge your bright minds. This year we will investigate; New Hampshire History, The Revolutionary War, Presidents, The Rock Cycle, Waves (sound, light, energy, ocean), Electrical Energy, Vertebrates and Invertebrates. You will be rotating between all three teachers for math, science, and social studies.
I am very passionate about teaching all subjects, though Reading and Math are my “FAV”. I enjoy using technology as much as I can. In fact, you can check out our classroom website by logging on to the Madison Elementary School web site at www.madison.k12.nh.us, and click on the “classroom sites” third/fourth grade button for our webpage link and also a link to my email. Please check out my website for upcoming events, weekly homework, spelling lists, and class information. You can see the class integrated arts schedule for this year’s specials on my website as well.
I also think it is very important to work together as a classroom family. We will be spending a lot of time together so it is important to treat each other with respect, kindness, and compassion. I know that each of you have a different brain, which means you think and learn differently. It is my job as your teacher to help you grow as a learner and as a person of good character.
As we did last year, we will earn positive behavior points to deposit in our “checkbooks” with Class DoJo and parents can get the free app for their phone to see progress daily as well as message me through Class DoJo. You can start earning your first 10 points by writing back to me on the enclosed letter paper. I also included an envelope with my address on it. Just let me know how your summer is going and what you’re looking to the most in school next year. I am looking forward to hearing from all of you.
When you are shopping for back to school, there are a few things that you will need to make sure you have for class this year: plenty of pencils, extra erasers and glue sticks, and a backpack to carry your things back and forth in. Bring a snack if you would like one for our morning snack time and snack milk money if you would like to order milk for snack as well. I gratefully accept any donations to our classroom “emergency snack box” for students who forgot to bring their snack in as well as sugar-free gum to help focus. (Crackers or Cheerios are always good.)
I will supply for you; colored pocket folders to organize your papers, a composition book for your “Journal Writing”, your first plastic homework and notes-home folder, colored pencils and markers. I will have a “book/folder bin” for each student to organize their work by subject. I will print out weekly homework assignment sheets, as well as put it on our classroom website, so you do not need to purchase an assignment book. The assignment sheet allows you to organize your time to have all assignments completed and turned in by Friday of each week, and offers a space for a parent signature nightly, showing that parents have reviewed your work.
I can’t wait to see you, and hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!

Spelling forms:
Spelling Story or Sentences form
This Week's Spelling Lists Below: We are trying a new program called "Words Their Way." All students took the same pre-test and then we determined which list, or sort, as they refer to them, they should be on based on the results of the pre-test. Then each week they will move up to the next sort. Some of the 4th graders are back on the Treasures lists that we used previously. I am trying to differentiate as much as possible for each student.
